The wrestling landscape just got a little more terrifying as one of AEW’s most unique performers officially hit the free agent market. Abadon, the horror-themed wrestler who brought a distinct supernatural presence to All Elite Wrestling, confirmed their contract has officially expired and they’re ready to haunt venues across the independent scene.

Contract Termination Timeline Reveals AEW’s Direction

The writing was on the wall back in May when Abadon first announced their impending departure from Tony Khan’s promotion. After going three months without television time following their February match, the wrestler took to social media on May 30 to reveal AEW had chosen not to renew their deal.

This decision speaks volumes about the company’s current roster priorities. With AEW’s women’s division becoming increasingly crowded with high-profile signings, unique characters like Abadon sometimes fall through the cracks despite their memorable presentations.

Official Free Agency Declaration Sparks Industry Interest

On June 11, Abadon made it official with a straightforward message that sent ripples through wrestling’s underground:

Officially a free agent! Let’s fill some dates!

The response was immediate and telling. Former AEW star Leyla Hirsch and recently released WWE performer Shotzi were among the notable names reaching out, suggesting Abadon’s unique appeal hasn’t gone unnoticed by fellow wrestlers.

A Four-Year Journey Through All Elite Wrestling

Abadon’s AEW story began during the pandemic era in March 2020, when professional wrestling desperately needed fresh faces and creative presentations. Their horror movie-inspired character work stood out immediately in a women’s division still finding its identity.

The company recognized this potential, offering a contract later that same year. For four years, Abadon brought something genuinely different to AEW programming – a supernatural element that felt authentic rather than campy.

Final Moments in the Company

The closing chapter of Abadon’s AEW tenure tells a story of diminishing opportunities. Their last company appearance came in February with a victory over Racheal Ellering on Ring of Honor programming – a win that ironically marked the end rather than a new beginning.

Even more telling, their final AEW television match occurred back in December 2023 at Worlds End, where they challenged Julia Hart for the TBS Championship. That unsuccessful title bout would prove to be their swan song on the main stage.

Independent Scene Awaits Horror Wrestling’s Return

The independent wrestling circuit just gained one of its most visually striking performers. Abadon’s character work and in-ring abilities make them an instant attraction for promotions looking to offer something different from the typical wrestling presentation.

With established connections already reaching out and a proven track record of memorable performances, Abadon’s post-AEW career could actually provide more creative freedom than their previous situation allowed.

Will the horror-themed wrestler find a new major promotion home, or will they carve out their own path through the thriving independent scene? Either way, wrestling just got a lot more interesting with Abadon back on the open market.
