According to Dave Meltzer, AEW got another small victory over WWE recently. Aside from its rating dominance on Wednesday nights over the last several weeks, not to mention the steady decline in WWE’s ratings.
All Elite Wrestling is now going to replace WWE programming in Italy. As we said, this is a small victory.
“After about two decades, WWE has lost its deal with Sky Sports Italy over a combination of the cost of the rights and the decline of interest in viewers. Sky made the decision to drop WWE several months ago due to costs increasing and ratings declining. But when WWE offered the old PPVs like they did to FS1, those shows did well.
WWE made a deal after losing Sky with Discovery. Sky did have interest in WWE after turning them down before and just made a deal this week with AEW, which starts on the station in a Friday night time slot on 7/31. Over the past year, for similar reasons, WWE has lost Sky in Germany/Austria (now on DAZN), the U.K. (now on BT Sports) and Italy”Dave Meltzer
Meltzer did mention that WWE did make a deal with Discovery in Italy. Which is good for WWE fans, the problem is the trend. WWE seems to be really trending downward recently.
A year ago WWE stock was at $72.87, today it is around $43.98. WWE’s flagship show Raw drew an average of 1,628,000 viewers on USA Network. This was slightly up from last week’s all-time low 1,561,000 viewers.
