During the time of the height of the pandemic, All Elite Wrestling introduced two match concepts that the fans are still in awe for till this day and want to see make a return to live television. The two matches are the Stadium Stampede Match and the Blood & Guts Match.
All Elite Wrestling was set to hold their inaugural Blood & Guts Match in March of 2020, but the bout was pushed back a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After being delayed for over a year, AEW had the first-ever Blood & Guts Match on the May 5, 2021 episode of Dynamite, where The Pinnacle would defeat The Inner Circle. The inaugural Blood & Guts Match was supposed to feature The Elite facing The Inner Circle, but the match turned out to become the Stadium Stampede Match.
Dave Meltzer mentioned on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that the promotion is planning to hold their second-ever Blood & Guts Match soon, but there is no word yet on what event the match will be taking place in or who will be competing in the match. Meltzer also noted that with the current storyline of the Jericho Appreciation Society, we could very well see them compete in the second-ever Blood & Guts Match against 5 of the seven people who confronted them on AEW Dynamite last Wednesday, that being Eddie Kingston, Santana, Ortiz and all the members of the Blackpool Combat Club (William Regal, Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson and ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta).
This coming Wednesday night on AEW Dynamite, “The Wizard” Chris Jericho and William Regal will have a face-to-face confrontation and it appears that AEW is planning a major match at AEW Double Or Nothing for these factions, but that isn’t set in stone yet and there is no word yet on if the match will end up being the Blood & Guts Match, though if this is the match they end up having, the segment is where they will announce the match and since William Regal was known for screaming, “War Games” when he was still the NXT General Manager, this is the closest and most appropriate match AEW has to offer.
