As previously reported, Paul Wight announced on his official debut with AEW that a huge “Hall of Fame worthy talent” signing will take place at the Revolution PPV. AEW President Tony Khan would then make an appearance on AEW’s Unrestricted podcast and note that what Paul Wight said is absolutely true and that a huge star in the world of wrestling is going to appear at the Revolution PPV and sign a multi-year contract with AEW.
During this past Sunday night’s Revolution PPV Event, it was revealed that the huge star is Christian Cage and that he has signed a contract with AEW. Christian Cage made his way down to the ring, didn’t say a word, signed his AEW contract, and left the contract in the ring. He then revealed his brand-new AEW shirt, which reads, “Out. Work. Everyone.”
WWE and Christian Cage were reportedly in talks and they had even shown some interest in signing him, however, talks apparently fell through. Christian returned to in-ring competition at the Royal Rumble PPV this past January after an absence of nearly seven years.
After Christian and the WWE didn’t come to terms, the former WWE Star reportedly reached out to AEW CEO Tony Khan about a possible deal.
According to Fightful Select, talents in the WWE weren’t aware for sure of the signing, but had their suspicions especially since Christian didn’t appear in the shows after the Royal Rumble. Officials in the WWE reportedly told Fightful that Christian not being mentioned or referenced on WWE TV wasn’t a coincidence and that while they were let down that Christian made the jump from WWE to AEW, it was on the company for not coming to terms on a contract with Christian.
The report also mentions that one wrestler spoke highly of Christian as a person and was happy if the jump from WWE to AEW makes Christian happy. It was added that several talent in AEW were aware of the signing ahead of the Revolution PPV Event, but kept it in the dark and kept the signing a secret.
