Cody On If He Was The Reason WWE Changed The IC Title Belt

This past Friday night’s episode of WWE SmackDown saw a brand-new WWE Intercontinental Title belt be introduced when Sami Zayn presented it to WWE Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura during an in-ring segment.

It was in 2011 when the white Intercontinental Title belt was first used and interestingly it was introduced back then by none other than AEW Executive Vice President “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes.

Since Cody Rhodes is now in All Elite Wrestling, he commented on if he was the reason for the change in the Intercontinental Title belt.

This is what Cody Rhodes said:

“Unlikely. Probably just time for a change.” “All good things and such…I’m sure this one will have great moments/wrestlers attached to it just like the older one.”

Cody Rhodes then mentioned in a past interview that it was he who had the title made white and even initially paid for it, but after showing it to Vince McMahon, the payment he made was refunded back to him.

This is what Cody Rhodes said:

“You have no idea how difficult that was to get the IC Title, the white IC Title.” “Not many people know this—I paid for the title to be recreated. I was refunded, heavily refunded, but I paid to show it to the man and said, ‘Listen, this will get a reaction, that you might not think it will and here’s why,’ you know? And I’m very happy to see it still in existence.”
