Last night’s NJPW Dominion Event saw Hiroshi Tanahashi face Hirooki Goto in a Singles Match, with the winner advancing to Forbidden Door to face Jon Moxley and the winner will walk out as the Interim AEW World Champion. “The Ace Of NJPW” Hiroshi Tanahashi walked out of the match at Dominion as the winner and he is now set to battle AEW’s Jon Moxley at the Forbidden Door PPV Event to crown the Interim AEW World Champion.
Forbidden Door was supposed to feature AEW World Champion CM Punk defending his title against Hiroshi Tanahashi, but due to CM Punk’s unfortunate injury, that match will no longer be taking place, though it is possible that we could still see that match down the line. CM Punk suffered an injury just days after becoming the new AEW World Champion and he just recently underwent successful surgery, so while he is on the sidelines recovering, AEW will determine an Interim World Champion to take his place and once CM Punk has been medically cleared to compete, then he will make his return and face the Interim AEW World Champion in a Unification Match to crown the Undisputed AEW World Champion.
AEW and NJPW’s Forbidden Door is set to take place on Sunday, June 26th from inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
