At the AEW Double Or Nothing PPV Event, CM Punk got the biggest win of his entire AEW career, when he defeated “Hangman” Adam Page to become the brand-new AEW World Champion, but just days after his huge victory, The Best In The World made an appearance on an episode of AEW Rampage and delivered some sad and heart-wrenching news.
According to CM Punk, he has suffered an injury that requires surgery and due to that, he will be out of in-ring action for quite some time. CM Punk also revealed that his situation is just a bump in the road, but he didn’t want to hold up the company and was ready to relinquish the title. Punk then said that AEW President and CEO Tony Khan told him that he does not need to relinquish the AEW World Title before promising the fans that he will come back bigger, faster, stronger and hungrier than ever.
AEW announcer and Senior Advisor “Good Ole’ J.R.” Jim Ross recently took to his “Grilling JR” podcast to talk about AEW World Champion CM Punk being out of action due to injury and how unfortunate it is, but if anybody can work their way through it, it is none other than CM Punk. Jim Ross also said he’ll return healthy and fired up and more motivated than ever.
This is what Jim Ross said:
“It is very unfortunate.” “… If anybody can work their way through it, it’ll be Phil Brooks, AKA CM Punk, no doubt. So I don’t have any qualms or any hesitation regarding, you know, how CM Punk’s going to return. He’ll return healthy, and fired up, and motivated.”
Commentary announced during last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite that Punk underwent lower leg surgery earlier in the day in Los Angeles and that the surgery was a success. Commentary also said CM Punk is on his way to recovery, but no timeframe was provided as to when CM Punk will be returning to AEW TV.
