Dave Meltzer reported on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that the original plan for Jon Moxley’s next AEW World Title defense was supposed to be against one of AEW’s most athletic and resilient big men “The Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer.
At the Full Gear PPV Event, this match was somewhat teased during a backstage segment on the Buy-In Pre Show, where AEW announcer Alex Abrahantes mentioned how Archer was “standing in the wings” to face the winner of the Jon Moxley vs. Eddie Kingston AEW World Title Match. This match was teased once again when Archer and Jake Roberts cut a backstage promo during Full Gear.
Meltzer then mentioned that he is unsure what happened regarding the Moxley vs. Archer AEW World Title Match, but it seems that AEW completely forgot about it or perhaps just wanted it postponed as it is obvious that there is something going on and AEW has already gone in a different direction by announcing the Moxley vs. Omega World Title Match for Dynamite on December 2nd.
Meltzer also mentioned that it is surprising for a PPV-caliber Match like Moxley vs. Omega to air on AEW TV on an episode of Dynamite rather than having it on the next PPV. A reason for this match to take place on Dynamite is that since Revolution, AEW’s next PPV Event is scheduled to take place on February 27th, 2021, the company might face great difficulty to keep the Moxley vs. Omega feud running for more than three months.
Omega earned his AEW World Title opportunity by defeating Hangman Page at Full Gear in the AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament Final Match. Dynamite last Wednesday night saw Kenny Omega say that his loss to Jon Moxley at last year’s Full Gear PPV does not count since it was an Unsanctioned Match, but Moxley said that he has beaten Omega before and beating him again will take something special and that something special is him and that he is the top of the pro wrestling world.
