In a segment straight out of a bygone era, AEW President Tony Khan appeared alongside Tony Schiavone on tonight’s IMPACT wrestling to deliver a few choice words.
In what was dubbed a paid advertisement, harkening back to early NWA/WCW days, Tony Khan cut a passive-aggressive promo with Kenny Omega and Callis being his focus. Khan claimed he wasn’t happy with how Omega won the AEW World Championship.
“If I wanted to stop this, I could. I could file an injunction, I could say [Kenny] is in breach of contract… but I’m not going to do that.”
Khan then snarkily invited Omega and Callis to tomorrow night’s Dynamite
“Don Callis, you’re welcome to come with Kenny [to Dynamite] tomorrow too. We’re more than happy to accomodate you. We’re just really looking forward to seeing you buddy.”
Khan then went on to plug tomorrow’s episode of AEW Dynamite and made a joke about buying Impact Wrestling.
But the crowning comment of the segment came at the end from Tony Schiavone. When Khan asked him if he’d been to Impact Wrestling before, Schiavone replied:
“Yeah, for one night. Then I quit the business for 18 years.”
This appearance marks the first time that Tony Khan has appeared on-screen on a wrestling show within the confines of kayfabe. Previously, Khan stated that he had no intentions of appearing on screen at all.
