On Sunday, June 26th, All Elite Wrestling will be holding their Forbidden Door Event in collaboration with NJPW and the card for the joint show is already beginning to take shape with top stars from both promotions set to compete against each another in certain matchups, but there are a number of top AEW Stars who are not scheduled to make an appearance on the show.
Sources who have a good relationship with Luchablog, the premiere news outlet for all news related to Lucha Libre in the United States, revealed that AEW’s Andrade El Idolo will not be appearing at their Forbidden Door Event despite initially being booked for the show and Penta Oscuro and Rey Fenix won’t be making an appearance on Forbidden Door as well. Andrade not being a part of the Forbidden Door PPV Event comes after him sending a tweet that thanks to CMLL and AAA, he can’t work with NJPW. Konnan, a booker from AAA, then responded to Andrade and said they have nothing to do with NJPW or CMLL.
Even though the working relationship of AEW and NJPW is stronger than ever, it seems that the working relationship between CMLL and NJPW is the reason why AEW’s Andrade, Fenix and Penta are off Forbidden Door. Andrade, Penta and Fenix are all associated with AAA, the rival promotion of CMLL in Mexico and NJPW currently has a working relationship with CMLL, which dates back to 2008, meaning anybody who is associated with AAA won’t be able to work an event that is connected with NJPW because of the hostile relationship AAA and CMLL have even though AEW and NJPW have a strong working relationship and Fenix, Penta and Andrade are currently under contract to AEW, they won’t be able to appear at Forbidden Door because Rey Fenix is scheduled to compete at AAA’s Showcenter Event on June 26, which is the same day as Forbidden Door.
Andrade, on the other hand, was reportedly booked for Forbidden Door and Penta Oscuro is scheduled to face Malakai Black in an AEW All-Atlantic Qualifying Match on this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, with the winner advancing to Forbidden Door to compete in a 4-Way Match for the AEW All-Atlantic Championship. From where things stand right now, it seems that Malakai Black will defeat Penta Oscuro to advance to Forbidden Door. There is also a possibility that the reigning AAA World Tag Team Champions FTR’s Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood could be affected by the hostile relationship AAA and CMLL have and they will be removed from Forbidden Door if they were to be booked, but that seems highly unlikely and they are rumored to face NJPW’s The United Empire (Jeff Cobb and Great O’Khan) in Tag Team action.
