Katana Chance Reveals Uncertain Wrestling Future After WWE Release: ‘I Really Have Never Not Been in a Contract’

The wrestling world continues to process the fallout from WWE’s latest round of talent releases, with many wondering what’s next for the departed superstars. For Katana Chance, formerly known as Kacy Catanzaro, the answer isn’t as clear-cut as many might expect from a released wrestler.

The wrestling world continues to process the fallout from WWE’s latest round of talent releases, with many wondering what’s next for the departed superstars. For Katana Chance, formerly known as Kacy Catanzaro, the answer isn’t as clear-cut as many might expect from a released wrestler.

From American Ninja Warrior to WWE Uncertainty

Chance’s journey to WWE was unconventional from the start. Unlike many wrestlers who cut their teeth on the independent circuit, she came to sports entertainment directly from American Ninja Warrior fame. This unique path now leaves her at a crossroads that other released talent might not face.

The former Women’s Tag Team Champion, along with partner Kayden Carter, was among the casualties in WWE’s recent cuts. Their release came shortly after being transferred from Raw to SmackDown, making the timing particularly surprising for the duo.

A Career Built on Contracts and Challenges

During her appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, Chance revealed the complexity of her current situation. Her adult life has been a series of contracted commitments, leaving little room for personal exploration.

“I feel like my whole adult life I’ve always really gone right from one challenge to the next. I did gymnastics for four years. I had a scholarship. I couldn’t really do anything else. I was really locked in. Right after I graduated, I went to American Ninja Warrior for five years. I was in contracts with them each season, which WWE took me right from there.

This revelation highlights something many fans don’t consider: the structured nature of athletic careers can sometimes leave performers unsure of their own desires when that structure disappears.

The Wrestling Dilemma: Stay or Go?

When asked about continuing her wrestling career, Chance’s honesty was refreshing in an industry where many immediately declare their intentions. Her response showed the thoughtful consideration many wrestlers probably go through but rarely discuss publicly.

“That’s a good question. I’m not sure. I’m gonna say I’m not sure, because it could go either way. I feel like most people, they know right away. The second it happens, they’re like, Okay, I’m doing this.”

This uncertainty stems from her non-traditional wrestling background. While others might return to independent promotions they previously worked, Chance lacks those foundational experiences that could pull her back to the squared circle.

Taking Time for Self-Discovery

Perhaps most tellingly, Chance emphasized the importance of self-reflection after years of contract obligations. Her eight-year WWE tenure, preceded by gymnastics and American Ninja Warrior commitments, left little time for personal exploration.

“I really have never not been in a contract, and just thought what does Kacy want to do? And so I think that takes more than a week or two.”

This introspective approach might be exactly what she needs. The wrestling business will always be there, but the opportunity for genuine self-discovery is rare in high-level athletics.

What This Means for Women’s Wrestling

Chance’s potential departure from wrestling would represent a loss for women’s wrestling, particularly given her unique athletic background and the chemistry she displayed with Carter. However, her thoughtful approach to career decisions demonstrates the maturity that made her successful across multiple disciplines.

The former champion’s journey from gymnastics to obstacle course racing to professional wrestling already defied conventional paths. Whatever she decides next, her willingness to prioritize personal fulfillment over immediate career moves suggests she’ll make the right choice for her long-term happiness. Will Katana Chance ultimately return to the ring, or will this mark the end of one of wrestling’s most unique origin stories?
