It was teased for quite some time that AEW President Tony Khan will make a “huge announcement” during a recent episode of AEW Dynamite and it was even rumored and speculated that the announcement will be regarding a joint AEW and NJPW Supershow. A segment would then take place during AEW Dynamite several weeks back, where Tony Khan made his way out and introduced NJPW President Takami Ohbari, but as they were about to make the “huge announcement,” they were interrupted by AEW Star Adam Cole and NJPW Star “Switchblade” Jay White, who said that the Forbidden Door Event is all about The Undisputed Elite and The Bullet Club.
Pre-sale tickets for Forbidden Door went on sale yesterday morning and it reportedly sold out in just about 40 minutes, WrestleTix reports. The queue had about 20,000 people waiting to get their hands on the tickets, but the current setup is only for 14,000 people and AEW President Tony Khan noted 11,000 tickets have already been sold. AEW is expected to make a limited amount of tickets available for the general public later on today at 11AM ET, with tickets available to purchase via Ticketmaster.com and AEWTix.com, but even those tickets are expected to sell out fast, though it is that AEW releases more seats or they can even try to expand the seating map.
All Elite Wrestling has had a working relationship with NJPW since the promotion was launched back in 2019 and since then top stars from both promotions have appeared on the other show such as Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho appearing in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), and Satoshi Kojima, KENTA, Ren Narita, Rocky Romero and Minoru Suzuki appearing in AEW.
AEW/NJPW’s Forbidden Door Event is set to take place on Sunday, June 26 from inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
