AEW Star The Blade Provides Injury Update, Addresses Contract Status

One Big Thing

AEW star The Blade, who has been absent from television for much of 2024, has provided an update on his current status, revealing that he is still with the company but on “injury reserve” due to a back injury.

Key Points

  • The Blade’s last AEW appearance was in January 2024, teaming with Kip Sabian and The Butcher against Mark Briscoe & The Hardys.
  • His last wrestling match was on February 4, 2024, at A1 Watch The Throne 7 in Canada.
  • The Blade revealed he has two discs and two ruptured discs in his back, causing him to take time off to heal.
  • He is currently undergoing physical therapy and may require surgery.

The Blade’s Statement

In an appearance on K&S WrestleFest, The Blade said:

“I’m just on injury reserve right now but yes, still with the company [AEW]. A lot of wear and tear… Might be [having surgery]. That’s what we’re in the midst of right now.”

Return Timeline

When asked if he would return before AEW All In on August 25, 2024, The Blade stated:

“I’m hoping so.. My back’s bad. It’s slowly but surely getting better but I’m hoping to be back in a couple months and I hope to be back by then…”

Why It Matters

The Blade’s absence from AEW programming has been felt by fans, as he is a talented performer and an integral part of the tag team division. His injury update provides clarity on his current status and potential return timeline, which is important for both the company and its viewers. As AEW continues to build towards major events like All In, having a healthy roster is crucial to delivering high-quality matches and storylines.
