Backstage News On A Possible Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay Match

One of the biggest dream matches that the wrestling world wants to see is a singles match between AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and NJPW Star Will Ospreay, who is also the current reigning and defending RevPro British Heavyweight Champion. Omega and Ospreay recently had a back and forth on Twitter after it was revealed that Omega ranked #1 in this year’s PWI 500 list, while Ospreay ranked #7.

It all started when the NJPW Star took to his Twitter and wrote, “I’d beat up number 1 any day of the week and twice on Wednesdays…just saying.”

Omega would then take to his Twitter and respond to Ospreay when he said, “Your promotion has been so ice cold since I left that not even Meltzer can convince his followers that you were part of any BITW conversation. It hurts me, bruv. One of you dorks should have been the guy. Turned out a bigger dog was my only competition.”

Ospreay then told Omega to open the forbidden door of pro wrestling and to talk about their potential future matchup. Dave Meltzer reported on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that a matchup between the two have not been discussed yet and no plans have been put in place, but both the AEW World Champion and the RevPro British Heavyweight Champion reportedly really want this matchup to take place.

AEW and NJPW currently have a strong working relationship, so it’s only a matter of time and planning for this dream matchup to take place and the best opportune time for this match to happen will be the upcoming NJPW Strong TV Tapings as Ospreay will be traveling to the United States and any date beyond that would be difficult due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions. Aside from a potential match against Will Ospreay, AEW World Champion Kenny Omega has said in the past that he wants a match against NEVER Openweight Champion Jay White.
