Chris Jericho is recognized as one of, if not the greatest professional wrestler in the pro wrestling industry as he has been successful in every pro wrestling promotion he has worked for and he has even won championship titles in every major pro wrestling promotion. Chris Jericho was the biggest signing in AEW history when the promotion was established back in January 2019 and he was even the first-ever AEW World Champion.
During the inaugural episode of AEW Dynamite on October 2, 2019, Chris Jericho, who was the still AEW World Champion at the time, introduced The Inner Circle, which consists of himself, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana and Ortiz. The Inner Circle, until now, is still known as one of the biggest stables in AEW as not only is it led by Chris Jericho, but they have been involved in the greatest matches as well as the greatest rivalries in company history.
Dave Meltzer said on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that with the contracts of certain talents set to expire soon or with some of the contracts already expired, Tony Khan had to make the tough decision of which talents the company will re-sign and “Le Champion” Chris Jericho was one of those stars the promotion decided to pick up on and with his two-year contract extension being signed last January, Jericho will remain under contract to AEW until early 2024.
This is what Dave Meltzer said:
“Even Jericho, there’s an age situation, but he was picked up. Actually, Jericho signed his two-year extension. I don’t know if you know, but Jericho’s two-year [extension] was picked up in January 2020. He’s under contract till January 2024.”
Other top AEW Stars such as The Young Bucks and Frankie Kazarian also had deals, which were picked up by the company, but that wasn’t the case with Cody Rhodes as there were certain factors which has led to him and Brandi Rhodes leaving. It was rumored that the two of them are now free to work elsewhere, with reports even stating that Cody Rhodes is set to return to the WWE soon.
Chris Jericho recently had a conversation with PopCulture in regards to his backstage role in AEW and how just like The Undertaker in WWE, he is working as a locker room leader. Jericho also said that he believes AEW is the #1 promotion in the wrestling business right now.
