Chris Jericho is no stranger to criticism from fans for his work in the ring, but Wednesday wrestling fans on Twitter lambasted him over an interview on his podcast with the son of President Donald Trump.
Donald Trump Jr. tweeted out a picture with the AEW Champion to promote his guest appearance this week on Jericho’s Talk is Jericho podcast from Westwood One. The interview is part of Don Jr.’s promotional campaign for his new book, #Triggered. You can read the content of the text below:
“Had a great time today chatting about my new book #Triggered on #TalkIsJericho with #LeChampion @IAmJericho,” Trump tweeted. “We had an awesome conversation and he’s a really cool dude. The podcast drops later this week and you won’t want to miss it!!!”
Don Jr.’s tweet created a firestorm of critical tweets from fans critically of the President, his son and their politics. You can read a few of the critical tweets below.
Jericho tried to douse some of the Twitter flames with an insistence that having Trump Jr. on his podcast didn’t mean he agreed with his or President Trump’s political moves.
However, many fans still weren’t satisfied with Jericho’s reasoning. They remained angry that Le Champion chose to give a platform to someone who they believe doesn’t deserve the publicity bump.
Former WWE Superstar Lance Storm wound up in Jericho’s corner. He fired off a tweet in support of Jericho,
“How dare you have a very famous controversial guest. Isn’t that the point of a podcast?”
However, this may provide yet another example of how shrew Jericho really is. The publicity over such a controversial guest with the timing of the announcement coming just days before AEW’s Full Gear pay-per-view show in Baltimore hardly seems coincidental.
There’s little doubt this could create more of an audience for Saturday’s event at Royal Farms Arena. Jericho, already a heel champion, may have given a reason to even more fans to show up or shell out dollars to watch from home to cheer against him. Jericho will defend his title against The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes.
