CM Punk is recognized to be one of, if not the most popular, outspoken and prominent personalities in all of pro wrestling and he is also considered one of, if not the best wrestler in the world. CM Punk left the pro wrestling industry in 2014 immediately following that year’s WWE Royal Rumble Event when he was unhappy with the treatment he was receiving from the company, but at the same time, Punk would also be released by the WWE.
CM Punk would then pursue his dream when he fought in the UFC twice, but would unfortunately suffer a defeat on both occasions. Punk also pursued a career in acting and made a few appearance on FS1’s WWE Backstage. Back in 2019, CM Punk crashed an indie show while wearing a mask, but he didn’t compete on the show and he hasn’t competed in an official match since 2014, but that could all change soon.
According to Fightful Select, CM Punk has been in talks for a potential return to pro wrestling as an in-ring performer and AEW is most likely the promotion he will end up joining, but a contract has not been signed yet, nor has a timetable, return date or creative plan been put in place. The report only mentioned that Punk has been in talks with an official in AEW about an in-ring return, but it was not confirmed with either Punk or the AEW official that there have been talks, though a number of higher-ups in the WWE have said that they believe Punk is going to All Elite Wrestling.
Now that fans have returned, other pro wrestling promotions have also been interested in Punk, but no specific offers have reportedly been made. It has been discussed several times that there has been an interest in both CM Punk and AEW President Tony Khan about bringing him in, even as early as a number of years ago, but Punk felt like no real offer was really made to him. Punk did say that if the right offer was made to him, then he will return to pro wrestling. It is interesting to note that AEW’s All Out PPV will be taking place in CM Punk’s hometown of Chicago, so it’s possible that he will make his return there.
