The main event of this past Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite saw a huge 8-Man Tag Team Match take place between Cody Rhodes and Death Triangle (AEW World Tag Team Champions Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix)) and PAC vs. the team of Malakai Black, Andrade El Idolo and the AAA Tag Team Champions FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood).
Majority of the fans in attendance inside the Wintrust Arena in Chicago were very vocal with a number of them even booing Cody Rhodes out of the building and at one point during the match, Rhodes removed his weight belt and tossed it into the crowd just like he does during his matches, but this time fans in the arena were urging the fan who caught the belt to throw it back in the ring, which the fan did.
Dave Meltzer noted on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that everything seemed to be normal and harmless on TV and that the vocal fans only added to the excitement of the broadcast but apparently there were a few fans that went overboard. Meltzer said that fans who were booing were really loud and obnoxious and things really got ugly, with fans calling Cody a “ret*rd.”
This is what Dave Meltzer said:
“So this is the report from someone who was there. On Cody, live there were actually many, if not more people cheering or booing, but the people booing were really, really loud and obnoxious. It actually did get ugly. There were people who were chanting ret*rd at Cody and people started booing. It was a pretty bad scene during the main event in the crowd.”
“The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes has revealed on numerous interviews that he has no plans of ever turning heel and that he plans on retiring still as a babyface, but he did tease the crowd in Chicago after Dynamite went off the air, when he almost walked through the heel tunnel, though it is unlikely he will be turning heel and if he does, it is a long shot, but we never know as in wrestling anything is possible.
