All Elite Wrestling held their All Out PPV Event last September 4th from the NOW Arena in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Immediately following the All Out PPV Event, a media scrum would take place and a major brawl would ensue between CM Punk, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) and Ace Steel following CM Punk’s comments on The Elite and that would lead to AEW stripping Punk and the Elite of their championships and being suspended indefinitely alongside AEW producer Pat Buck, Christopher Daniels, Michael Nakazawa and Brandon Cutler.
Former AEW World Champion CM Punk is one of the most outspoken and controversial personalities in all of pro wrestling, but he is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in all of pro wrestling as well. The former AEW and WWE World Champion is most notably known for his 434-day reign as WWE Champion and the pipebomb promo he cut during his WWE days, but it has been discussed that Punk isn’t expected to make a return to AEW following the events that transpired at the post-AEW All Out media scrum. It was also reported that a contract buyout will most likely be taking place between CM Punk and AEW and that the former AEW World Champion could possibly be making his return to the WWE and battle WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin at WrestleMania 39, but there will be a non-compete clause in place.
Punk may be on his way out of AEW, but he still made a few friends along the way such as the reigning IWGP Heavyweight and AAA Tag Team Champions FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood). Punk recently took to his Instagram stories and posted a photo of himself and Dax Harwood reuniting this past weekend. Punk worked with FTR in three tag team matches while he was still competing in AEW, with two being against them and the other being their tag team partner. Punk also faced Harwood in Singles action last March on AEW Dynamite.
CM Punk is reportedly aware of the rumors that have been circulating all over social media as well as the internet that he will be making his return to the WWE and to add more fuel to the rumors he would post a photo on his Instagram stories from his early days in the WWE. There is no word yet on if Punk is guaranteed to return to the WWE as he is currently injured and he is still under contract with All Elite Wrestling and even though reports have stated that a contract buyout will most likely be taking place between CM Punk and AEW, other reports have mentioned that they aren’t interested in buying out Punk’s contract.
There is also the possibility that things will be worked out between Punk and AEW as no timeframe was given if and when he might become a free agent and there have been no comments either from the WWE on Punk returning to the promotion as they are legally unable to have any kind of communication with him until he is officially released from AEW or a free agent.
