As previously reported, Paul Wight made his official AEW debut during this past Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite: The Crossroads special and noted that a huge “Hall of Fame worthy talent” signing will take place at tonight’s Revolution PPV. Wight then noted that “it is not who you think” and didn’t provide additional details other than that as to who this person might be.
AEW President and CEO Tony Khan then appeared as a guest on AEW’s Unrestricted podcast and noted that what Paul Wight said is absolutely true and that a major star in the world of wrestling, a huge, huge star is going to come and sign a multi-year contract with AEW tonight at the PPV.
There is a lot of rumors and speculation on who this “Hall of Fame worthy talent” and major star will be, with names such as CM Punk, Batista and Mick Foley put into the conversation. A new report states that this former WWE World Heavyweight Champion was initially indicated to still be under contract to the WWE, but he is reportedly a free agent.
This former WWE World Heavyweight Champion is none other than “Captain Charisma” Christian and he was reportedly only under contract to the FOX Network since he was working on the WWE Backstage show that has since been canceled. The report also indicated that there were some ideas being discussed between the WWE and Christian and that the promotion was interested in signing him, however, talks apparently fell through. Christian returned to action at the WWE Royal Rumble this past January after an absence of nearly seven years.
According to Fightful Select, Christian has not been present as of late at WWE events, and there were no creative plans discussed about him moving forward. It was even said by fans that AEW’s Chief Legal officer Megha Parekh recently followed Christian on Instagram.
In any case, Christian would definitely fit the mold of Paul Wight’s statement of he being a “Hall of Fame-worthy talent” as well as Tony Khan’s statement of a “major star in pro wrestling.”
