Top AEW Star Kenny Omega lost the AEW World Title to “Hangman” Adam Page at earlier this month’s Full Gear PPV, in a match he reportedly worked with a hurt shoulder. Kenny Omega was set to defend the AAA Mega Title against El Hijo del Vikingo at AAA’s TripleMania Regia II Event on Saturday, December 4th, but it was rumored that he would be vacating the AAA Mega Title as the top AEW Star is set to undergo several surgeries soon due to the injuries he has been dealing with.
AAA officials were reportedly told on a recent episode of Dynamite that Omega will be needing surgery soon and he will not be able to defend the AAA Mega Title at AAA’s TripleMania Regia II Event. Dorian Roldán, AAA owner, then revealed that top All Elite Wrestling Star Kenny Omega has officially vacated the AAA Mega Title due to injury and surgery issues and that he will not be able to defend the title, but since El Hijo del Vikingo is still the top challenger, they will be finding the person he will go up against for the vacant AAA Mega Championship.
An announcement was made via AAA’s official social media account that former WWE Star Samuray Del Sol (Kalisto) will be the opponent of El Hijo del Vikingo to crown the brand-new AAA Mega Champion, which comes after the heart-breaking news of top AEW Star Kenny Omega vacating the title due to injuries he needs surgeries for. It was also mentioned that the match will not be a Singles Matchup, but a multi-person match and that more participants will be announced soon.
Samuray Del Sol signed with the WWE back in 2013 and competed in the promotion for 8 years before the company released him. He became a WWE United States Champion, a WWE Cruiserweight Champion as well as a WWE Tag Team Champion. Del Sol then competed on a recent episode of AEW Dynamite, when he teamed up with AAA Star Aero Star to challenge AAA World Tag Team Champions FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood), but would unfortunately come out on the losing end.
AAA’s TripleMania Regia II Event is set to take place next Saturday, December 4th in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, which will reportedly be Samuray Del Sol’s first appearance at an AAA Event since 2012, and his first ever appearance at a TripleMania Event of any kind.
