Hikaru Shida Reportedly Taking Time Off To Return To Japan

One of AEW’s top Stars in the women’s division Hikaru Shida, who signed with All Elite Wrestling last April 9th, 2019, took to her Twitter and confirmed the initial reports made by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that she will be taking time off of AEW television to return to her home country of Japan. Hikaru Shida posted a photo of herself on her first tweet as she was waiting in the airport, with the caption, “Time to leave.”

Hikaru then posted another photo of herself on her second tweet as she arrived in her home country of Japan, along with the caption, “Just arrived at Japan!” “Gonna get rest my knee and whole body during quarantine”

Shida made her AEW in-ring debut at the 2019 Double Or Nothing PPV Event, when she competed in a Six-Woman Tag Team Match. Shida has been a staple of the AEW women’s division, especially when she became the AEW Women’s World Champion at the 2020 Double Or Nothing PPV, when she defeated Nyla Rose in a No DQ, No Count-Out Match and held the AEW Women’s World Championship for 370 days, which is the longest reign so far in promotion history.

Hikaru Shida has had an extremely personal and physical rivalry with Serena Deeb for a few months now and they are currently at 2 – 2 in the 4 matches they have had so far. This past Wednesday’s Dynamite saw Serena Deeb viciously attack Shida, which was reportedly done as a way to write her off of AEW TV and it is believed that once Shida makes her return, they will settle their rivalry. There is no word yet on when Hikaru will return to the United States, but updates will be provided once it’s been made available.
