According to a report at Wrestling Inc, AEW World Women’s Champion, Dr. Britt Baker, spoke to the press at a Planet Comicon event very soon after the second ever episode of Rampage aired on TNT—an episode that featured the long awaited return of one Phil Brooks (CM Punk) to the professional wrestling industry.
CM Punk is of course married to former Diva’s Champion (WWE), AJ Lee. They courted while working together in WWE and married soon after. In actual fact, Punk received his walking papers from WWE on his wedding day to Lee.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, as he stated in his promo on Rampage last Friday, he had gotten ill while trying to over perform (and succeeding) for WWE, especially at the tail end of his tenure there, after things started to get frustrating for him and his fans—which has always been attributed to the stifling of Punk after the famed “Pipe Bomb” promo.
Regardless, the past is the past, but it always fuels action one way or another and in this case, the fuel providing Punk with the gumption to say the things he said on TV about his former employers.
With all of that big noise still in play—many news sources (including us over here at Pro Wrestling News Hub) are still buzzing about the news and we have even just a bit more in the Punk-related news and rumor mill for you all.
AJ Lee, CM Punk’s wife, had an incredible in-ring career herself, having wrestled on the independent circuit before settling into her role in WWE. With Punk’s return, many have wondered if his wife would follow suit and perhaps rekindle her relationship with the fans and the squared circle itself.
As we stated earlier, the question was brought up to Dr. Britt Baker herself and she had this to say on the matter:
“…I was a big AJ Lee fan…One of the first moves I asked my trainer to teach me when I was training was her finisher, the Black Widow (AJ’s submission hold), so, that would be really cool…Again, it’s giving the fans what they want. I think for the fans to see both of them (including Lee’s husband, CM Punk) in a wrestling ring again in 2021, which is not in WWE, which alone would be evolutionary…So, for that moment alone, I would love to see her in AEW. I would love to see her in the ring with me…”

High praise indeed. If we’ll see a return remains to be seen, but an incredible opportunity is surely present in what Baker has said here, and we hope that AEW and AJ Lee make the right decision—both for themselves and the fans. It would be epic to see AJ back in the ring for sure.
She has authored 4 books and it states on her Wikipedia page that she officially retired as of 2015, but in wrestling, you can never say never, as I’m sure you already all know.
