Mercedes Martinez Appears On AEW Dynamite, Signs With AEW

This past Wednesday’s New Year’s Smash episode of Dynamite saw the final matchup in the AEW TBS Title Tournament semi-final round take place between the undefeated Jade Cargill and Thunder Rosa. Rosa got the early advantage when she hit Cargill with a low dropkick, but once Thunder Rosa got distracted by “Smart” Mark Sterling, the momentum and advantage of the match shifted over to Cargill.

The match would then end with a hooded person making their presence felt by hitting Thunder Rosa with a clubbing blow to her head, ultimately costing her the match and her chance to become the first-ever TBS Champion. Immediately after the match, Rosa went on to attack Jade Cargill as she was fuming over her loss, but the hooded person returned, attacked Thunder Rosa and revealed herself to be none other than former WWE NXT Superstar Mercedes Martinez. Ruby Soho then made her way down to the ring holding a baseball bat and she chased off Jade Cargill and Mercedes Martinez to end the post-match segment.

Shortly after making her debut on this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan revealed that Mercedes Martinez is now All Elite and has signed a contract with All Elite Wrestling.

Martinez appeared for AEW back in 2019, when she did some work for the promotion. Since then, she has worked for WWE NXT as well as a number of other Indie promotions prior to being released from the WWE earlier this year. It will be interesting to see if Martinez will be working with Jade Cargill moving forward and if she will be a factor on next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite when Jade Cargill takes on Ruby Soho in the finals of the AEW TBS Title Tournament.
