Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF), who is a top star in the promotion, was scheduled to make an appearance at Saturday’s AEW Double Or Nothing Fan Fest during the meet and greet session, but there have been a number of reports from fans in attendance and security personnel that MJF no-showed the event despite fans seeing him at a nearby casino and that he is not even answering his phone. Fans who attended the meet and greet session were given an option to either go to a different line or get a full refund.
According to Fightful Select, MJF not showing up during the meet and greet is not a work and it isn’t MJF just playing up his heel character and sources within the company have even said that the company is very unhappy about how it all played out to the point that communications between MJF and AEW have reached an all-time low. MJF is said to be physically fine and he reportedly has no health issues.
Fightful Select has also noted that a flight for MJF leaving Las Vegas late Saturday night was booked but there is no word yet on if he will board the flight as if he does leave Las Vegas, then MJF would not be making an appearance on the Double Or Nothing PPV Event later on tonight and his match against Wardlow will be in serious jeopardy.
This past April, MJF took part in an interview, which he did not clear up with AEW officials like AEW President Tony Khan and he didn’t mention it to the company’s PR either prior to the interview and it was during that interview that MJF made some comments which didn’t bode well with Tony Khan and since then, MJF has reportedly kept to himself and he has even distanced and isolated himself from the rest of the AEW locker room.
PWInsider.com recently provided an update that MJF did not board the flight to Newark, New Jersey and he is still in Las Vegas as if he did get on the plane, then he would have arrived in Newark sometime after 6:30AM on Sunday. There is no word yet on if MJF and Tony Khan had worked something out, but at this point, it seems that the AEW Star will be appearing at tonight’s PPV Event and his match against Wardlow will push through.
For over two months now, Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) had reportedly been frustrated with the company due to his current contract status with them as well as the amount of money he is being paid and even though All Elite Wrestling and the company’s President Tony Khan is willing to discuss a new contract with MJF and pay him the same amount of money a top performer will receive once he signs an extension with AEW to stay with them, he has turned them down and he is not showing any willingness to have any contract talks with them.
