All Elite Wrestling held their Blood & Guts AEW Dynamite episode last June 29th, with the second-ever Blood & Guts Match main-eventing the show and the legendary voice of professional wrestling and AEW’s Jim Ross only calling the action during the Blood & Guts Match, which would take up the entire second hour of the broadcast. The AEW Senior Advisor would receive a huge reaction from the crowd and it was later announced that the wrestling legend will be calling the action during the entire AEW Rampage as well, which was taped immediately following last week’s AEW Dynamite.
Since then, the legendary voice of pro wrestling Jim Ross has been commentating the entire episode of AEW Rampage and the entire second half of AEW Dynamite. AEW commentator and Senior Advisor “Good Ole’ J.R.” Jim Ross recently took to his “Grilling JR” podcast, where he revealed the reason he was placed on the AEW Rampage commentary team, while also addressing only commentating on the second hour of AEW Dynamite.
According to Jim Ross, the entire thing was a Tony Khan decision and due to the reception he has been receiving from the AEW fans, which has made him a ratings booster, the AEW CEO decided that he should call the main events of AEW Dynamite as well as the entire AEW Rampage to give Rampage a little boost commentary wise and to get the ratings up.
This is what Jim Ross said:
“Well, that was a Tony Khan decision, creatively. I was coming out before the show when I was doing all of Dynamite, and the reception was humbling. The fans were glad to see me and they expressed themselves. The reception has been really good. So he thought in the middle of the show, speaking about Dynamite, needed a boost, so JR became the booster. So I now come out in the middle of the show. I’m still going to call the main event or main events as it may work out. Then we all take a bathroom break for the crew and so forth, and then we go right into taping Rampage.”
“So that’s the deal, just keeping me fresh and and quote unquote special, and trying to give Rampage a little boost commentary wise. So we need to obviously get the ratings up, which I think we are. So that’s the reason for that. No problem with me whatsoever. I get more exposure now than I did before because I was not on Rampage.”
