All Elite Wrestling held their Blood & Guts episode of AEW Dynamite this past Wednesday night, with a few matches taking place during the first hour of the broadcast and the Blood & Guts Main Event Match taking place during the entire second hour of the broadcast. The company typically announces majority of their lineup several days ahead of their programming, but this past Wednesday night’s Blood & Guts episode of AEW Dynamite was different as the matches booked on the first hour was only revealed a day before the show.
Dave Meltzer noted on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that the reason behind this is due to COVID-19, though it was not mentioned of the AEW Stars tested positive for COVID-19 or if All Elite Wrestling was just playing it safe following Sunday’s Forbidden Door PPV Event. No names were mentioned on the report and it wasn’t revealed either if this will have any affect on the lineup of next week’s AEW Dynamite.
Despite several AEW wrestlers not appearing on Wednesday’s Dynamite, the 12 participants of the Blood & Guts Match were healthy, medically cleared and able to compete, but unfortunately, Santana suffered an injury and will most likely be out of action for quite some time.
This is what Dave Meltzer said:
“I want to mention this. There were a lot of people who were not available for the show because of COVID. That’s why they did not announce the show until pretty much today other than the Blood & Guts. I don’t think they had any matches until this morning….they didn’t announce much of this show ahead of time because…literally…they had to redo, whatever it was. The show was being put together late because of fears and things like that. That’s why some of the matches, besides the Blood & Guts match, the matches themselves are not exactly the usual quality.”
