AEW President and CEO Tony Khan, who also owns ROH, took part in a media scrum immediately after this past Saturday night’s ROH Death Before Dishonor Event and provided an update on the current AEW World Champion CM Punk. The AEW President said that CM Punk is doing well and that he is on schedule in his recovery.
This is what Tony Khan said:
“So, he’s doing well. He’s not behind in his recovery … Going into the [San Diego Comic-Con] Panel, he’s doing well and on track, and we look forward to a great unification match when he’s back, whoever the Interim champion is.”
Tony Khan also spoke about if CM Punk will be back in time for the AEW All Out PPV as fans are hoping The Best In The World will be competing during the PPV, which is set to take place in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Khan said he can’t rule out Punk making his highly-anticipated return at AEW’s All Out, but he can’t promise Punk will be returning to the show as well.
This is what Tony Khan said:
“I can’t rule [labor day] out but I also can’t promise because I don’t want to say anything when it comes to somebody’s recovery from a real, serious injury.”
CM Punk has been out of in-ring action since last May due to an injury and in his absence, Jon Moxley was crowned the Interim AEW World Champion, when he defeated NJPW Star Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door. CM Punk and Jon Moxley is set to have a Unification Matchup somewhere down the line to crown an Undisputed AEW World Champion once Punk has been medically cleared to return to action.
