This past Wednesday’s Wild Card Wednesday episode of AEW Dynamite featured three Owen Hart Foundation Matches, with two of the matches having a surprise competitor known as a “Joker.” One of the matchups saw Johnny Elite (F.K.A. John Morrison in WWE) make his in-ring debut with AEW, when he faced the ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe and came out of the match on the losing end.
AEW President and CEO Tony Khan recently appeared on Busted Open Radio and spoke about Johnny Elite’s debut with All Elite Wrestling and how great it was to have someone like him in AEW as the former WWE Star is a great mentor to some of the young talents in the AEW locker room and he is someone the fans have looked up to for a long time.
This is what Tony Khan said:
“Oh man, it was great to have Johnny Elite here.” “What a great match-up he had with Samoa Joe. It was a great way to make his debut in the Owen [Hart Foundation Tournament]. That was tremendous, and really, I am very glad he was here. He’s a great mentor to some of the young wrestlers in the locker room, and somebody I think fans have looked up to for a long time, and he went toe-to-toe with one of the toughest wrestlers in AEW. One of our great stars, and one of the greatest stars in the history of Ring of Honor – Samoa Joe.”
Typically, a “Joker” is someone making their debut with All Elite Wrestling and signs with them a few days or weeks after making their debut such as AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page, Matt Sydal and Ruby Soho, but AEW CEO Tony Khan has not yet announced or revealed Johnny Elite’s status with AEW and there hasn’t been any reports either of the promotion and Johnny Elite coming to terms on a full-time deal. Updates will be provided once it has been made available.
