AEW President and CEO Tony Khan recently made an appearance on an episode of the In The Kliq podcast, where he talked about how far in advance he plans matches as you always have to be ready for anything in this business such as unforeseen circumstances and injuries.
This is what Tony Khan said:
“Well, I was thinking about that through the summer, about All Out, Grand Slam, and then building towards Full Gear. You have to be on your toes in this business and all sports because injuries happen, unexpected circumstances happen, and plans change. So we’ve been ready to make changes as things happen, as injuries happen. Right now the roster is very healthy, very strong, and it’s coming together for one of the best events we’ve ever put together. So you know, you always have to be ready, watching, having plans in place, but then keeping an eye on what’s happening. In this case, certainly, there were some unexpected circumstances in the run up to Grand Slam.”
Tony Khan also talked about MJF’s contract status with the company as he previously announced signing a new deal with them for more money, but not for more time on his contract extension.
This is what Tony Khan said:
“I don’t want to comment on contractual status. But I would say it’s great to have MJF back in AEW. I think it’s great for the wrestling fans and certainly it’s really helped us. We’ve had a lot of ratings momentum. We had great ratings going into All Out and they’ve only gotten stronger these last couple weeks and it’s really building at the right time going into Grand Slam at Arthur Ashe Stadium this week.”
Tony Khan also talked about the rumors of a possible merger between NBC Universal and Warner Brothers Discovery.
This is what Tony Khan said:
“I could definitely not speculate on that and I would never speculate on that. I’m very happy with what we have right now. We have this great leadership from Discovery that’s come in and taken over, working with great management from Warner Brothers and now we have this really strong company Warner Brothers Discovery that is the single largest creator of content in the world and they’re showcasing AEW greater than we have ever been showcased before.”
Tony Khan then talked about the future of ROH and a possible TV deal down the line.
This is what Tony Khan said:
“If we can get the weekly TV going again, it would be even stronger. So wherever it ends up, TV streaming, I would love to bring Ring of Honor back on a weekly basis and it’s a conversation I’m having with Warner Brothers Discovery pretty frequently.
