Tony Khan Says CM Punk Never Asked For Colt Cabana To Be Moved

Former AEW World Champion CM Punk and current AEW/ROH Star Colt Cabana were extremely close and would even be considered as best friends several years ago, but that friendship started to fall apart after CM Punk appeared on Cabana’s “Art of Wrestling” podcast in November of 2014 because former WWE doctor Chris Amann sued both Punk and Cabana due to Punk’s comments and they even sued each other, with both lawsuits being dismissed later on.

Since then, Punk and Cabana have not spoken and their friendship was never the same and when Punk and Cabana both signed with All Elite Wrestling, Cabana wasn’t featured on AEW programming for quite some time, but he was used in ROH, which led to fans speculating that CM Punk had something to do with it. It was also speculated that part of the heat between Hangman and Punk was due to Cabana not appearing on AEW television, but there is reportedly no truth behind that.

All Elite Wrestling held their All Out PPV Event last September and immediately following the show, a post-All Out media scrum would take place, where CM Punk would take shots at Colt, The Elite and Adam Page, which would lead to a massive backstage brawl. AEW would then hold their Full Gear PPV Event on Saturday and immediately following the show, AEW CEO Tony Khan addressed the situation between Cabana and Punk and shot down the rumors that Punk had anything to do with Cabana being moved from AEW TV to ROH as well as not being used on AEW programming.

This is what Tony Khan said:

“No, he never asked for that. The first time it came up, I think you asked me on a scrum call, and I wasn’t looking at your face to face. I was really…it was before Death Before Dishonor, I think. He never asked me that. I could have probably addressed it then, and I didn’t comment on it because I wanted to keep talking about the wrestling that was on the show because Colt Cabana was wrestling on the show, and you weren’t asking me specifically about the show, so I didn’t answer that there. So, no.”

Colt Cabana made his return to AEW programming on the November 2 episode of AEW Dynamite when he took on Chris Jericho for Jericho’s ROH World Title, but Colt Cabana’s return reportedly made things worse between AEW and CM Punk.
