Top AEW Star Kenny Omega Vacates The AAA Mega Title

The main event of AEW’s Full Gear PPV saw Kenny Omega lose the AEW World Title to Hangman Page. Omega reportedly worked the match with a hurt shoulder, but he said he would still work the match if he had to despite the injury as Kenny Omega wanted to see the highly-personal, ultra-physical and popularly-known storyline with Hangman Page through. Omega was set to defend the AAA Mega Title against El Hijo del Vikingo at AAA’s TripleMania Regia II Event on December 4, but it was rumored and speculated that the top AEW Star would vacate the AAA Mega Title as he has been dealing with a number of injuries for quite some time now and he needs to undergo several surgeries soon.

AAA officials were reportedly told this past Wednesday night that Kenny Omega will be needing surgery and that he will not be able to defend the AAA Mega Title at AAA’s TripleMania Regia II Event. Dorian
Roldán, AAA owner, recently provided an update on the AAA Mega Title situation and noted that top AEW Star Kenny Omega has officially vacated the AAA Mega Title due to injury and surgery issues, but that El Hijo del Vikingo is still the top challenger.

Omega became the AAA Mega Champion at the promotion’s Heroes Inmortales XIII Event last October 19th, 2019, when he beat one-half of the current AEW World Tag Team Champions Rey Fenix. Omega has defended the AAA Mega Title since then against current AEW TNT Champion Sammy Guevara, Jack Evans, Dragon Lee, Laredo Kid and Andrade El Idolo, which was his last title defense last August 14 at TripleMania XXIX. Omega’s title defense against El Hijo del Vikingo at AAA’s TripleMania Regia II Event was supposed to be his sixth title defense.

There is no word yet on who will battle El Hijo del Vikingo for the vacant AAA Mega Championship, but updates will be provided as it becomes available.
