Why Kenny Omega vs. Bryan Danielson Was The Opening Match Of AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam

Last Wednesday night’s Grand Slam episode of AEW Dynamite was reportedly the biggest show the company has had to date, with the show having over 20,000 fans in attendance at Arthur Ashe Stadium and a big Non-Title Match between AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson, which was the show’s most talked about match and the most-anticipated match in company history, taking place on the show as the opening matchup of the night.

The Kenny Omega vs. Bryan Danielson Match, which reportedly surprised several fans by being the first match of the night and which was Bryan Danielson’s AEW in-ring debut match, ended in a 30-minute time limit draw.

Dave Meltzer noted on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the reason officials from AEW had the Kenny Omega vs. Bryan Danielson Matchup positioned as the opening match of the night so that they could have the match go longer during the opening moments of the show without needing to have even one commercial break, but it should be noted that there was one break during the match.

The belief is that AEW will be booking a second match between Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson and the match will reportedly be taking place at the promotion’s Full Gear PPV on Saturday, November 13, with Omega’s AEW World Title on the line.
