According to New York City Governor Andrew Cuomo, large stadiums and arenas, including Madison Square Garden and Nassau Coliseum, which has been the home arenas of the WWE and most recently, AEW, will be allowed to re-open for sports events and live concerts later this month.
These sports events and live concerts will only be allowed to accommodate a capacity of 10% for these venues, and other COVID-19 safety protocols and guidelines will still be in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Venues and arenas that can reportedly accommodate more than 10,000 fans can start holding events next Tuesday, February 23rd, but are still required to follow the maximum allowed capacity of 10% and must be signed off by the New York Department of Health.
All venues and arenas that will be holding events must strictly enforce the necessary COVID-19 safety protocols and guidelines, which includes wearing of face masks and social distancing and fans who are attending these events must show the proper documentation that they have tested negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior to the beginning of the event.
There is no word yet on if WWE is planning to hold future events in New York now that an announcement such as this has been made and due to the maximum capacity allowed, running MSG would mean they could bring in around 2,000 fans, while running the Barclays Center would allow for them to bring in around 1,600 fans and Nassau Coliseum would allow them only 1,500 fans, but updates will be provided once it has been made available.
There is also no word yet on if AEW might consider holding future events in New York as the promotion had several Dynamite tapings scheduled to take place in the Northeast sometime in 2020 that had to be nixed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but updates will also be provided once it’s been made available.
ROH, IMPACT Wrestling and NJPW could all also hold events in New York as well.
