All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has been making quite some waves in the pro wrestling world, and Tony Khan, the power player behind AEW is at the centre of it all. Khan, with his knack for team formation, recently stirred the pot by aligning Swerve Strickland with Prince Nana, and the results have been nothing short of spectacular.
It was disclosed that Prince Nana inked a long-term deal with AEW, which has significantly shaped his career trajectory. Nana poured out his feelings about his wrestling journey during a recent episode of Talk is Jericho. He reminisced about his maiden encounter with the brutal trio of Brian Cage, Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun, recalled his introduction to them and how very transformative it has been.
“The first day that I met the trio, I didn’t know who I was going to be working with that day. But, when I saw these three guys, one big Samoan giving me this smile, an evil smile, I got to know they were the guys that I was acquiring from Tully Blanchard. And boy, has it been a great ride,” revealed Nana.
He expressed pride over how he and his team, The Gates of Agony, were able to lift themselves to an undeniable level of achievement. This quality assurance was enough for match organisers to eagerly put them in contest due to their hard-hitting and exciting delivery.
From managing The Gates of Agony, Nana shifted to unpack his current role with Swerve Strickland, applauding Tony Khan for initiating it. He quoted, “Working with Swerve has been probably one of the smartest things that have ever happened as far as my character is concerned.” Nana admired Khan’s ingenuity for devising such productive alliances that not only elevated the AEW’s status but also helped Nana to showcase multiple facets of his personality.
Nana and Strickland’s collaboration harmonises well considering their musical connection and popular dance, Swerve When I Drive. Having a lengthy history with ROH, Nana first surfaced in 2002, and The Embassy took shape two years later. However, it would take until December 2022 to achieve a championship through The Embassy, consisting of Cage, Liona and Kaun.
Reflecting on his blossoming partnership with Strickland, Nana acknowledges Khan’s foresight. He shared, “For Tony to be the one to put us together and for this magic to happen, it’s unbelievable because I feel like I’m where I need to be.”
With such purposeful strategies and a knack for creating compelling team dynamics, AEW and Tony Khan are setting a new benchmark in the pro wrestling industry.
