CM Punk, who is one of the most, if not the most polarizing figure in all of sports entertainment/pro wrestling, made his shocking return to WWE at Survivor Series: WarGames from his hometown of Chicago, Illinois and had a brief interaction with the fans. Punk then appeared on RAW two nights later and he cut a promo that was described as nice and humble.
This past Friday night’s Tribute To The Troops episode of SmackDown saw Punk make another appearance, but this time his promo was more like his old self as he put over younger stars, made it clear why he is back in WWE and announced that he will reveal which brand he would sign with on tonight’s RAW. The Best In The World also revealed that he would give WWE Hall of Famer and NXT executive Shawn Michaels a call this past weekend ahead of WWE NXT Deadline about potentially signing with the NXT brand since he is still weighing his options about which brand he’ll choose.
Punk made an appearance in the opening moments of WWE NXT Deadline this past Saturday, when he walked down to the ring after interrupting Shawn’s opening address. Punk apologized for the interruption and asked the WWE Hall of Famer if he was about to say the patented DX catchphrase “suck it.” HBK laughed and Punk asked if he could say that on television. HBK then said he didn’t know and Punk teased again before potentially hinting signing with NXT before taking a selfie with the WWE Hall of Famer.
According to Haus of Wrestling, a source within WWE said that Michaels is allowed to say “Suck it” on WWE TV, but he felt that it wasn’t the right moment as uttering those words usually signifies the end of a DX segment and they just started their segment. It was also mentioned on the report that CM Punk was backstage at the venue almost the entire day and he was described as being great around everyone, which includes his interactions with Triple H as it was said to also be legit very good.
People who are close to CM Punk continue to talk about how happy he is and that he is just looking to keep riding the wave he is still on, but his appearance at last Saturday night’s WWE NXT Deadline did catch many off guard backstage despite the tease on social media a few days prior.
