ECW Legend Francine Details Changed Plans for WWE NXT Appearance

One Big Thing

Former ECW star Francine revealed she was originally planned to be a guest referee at WWE NXT’s recent show at the 2300 Arena (formerly ECW Arena), but multiple circumstances led to changes in her appearance format.

The Details

• WWE official John Cone contacted Francine on October 17 about appearing at the NXT event
• Initial plan: Guest referee for Jaida Parker vs. Lola Vice match
• Changed to timekeeper role due to Francine’s recent abdominal surgeries
• Final plan for backstage interviewer role was scrapped due to her lost voice from Rhode Island ComicCon appearance

Direct Quote

“I was sitting at home, it was 9 o’clock at night… When I saw my phone ring, I was like, ‘Oh, must be WWE calling for something,'” Francine said on her “Eyes Up Here” podcast.

Why It Matters

WWE’s effort to include ECW originals at the 2300 Arena show demonstrates their commitment to honoring wrestling history and maintaining connections with legendary performers. The 2300 Arena, formerly ECW Arena, holds significant historical value in professional wrestling, and incorporating ECW personalities adds authenticity to events held there.

By The Numbers

• 17 years since Francine’s last major WWE appearance (2006 ECW revival)
• 3 different planned roles for her appearance (referee, timekeeper, interviewer)
