Former WWE Star Granted His Release After Not Having A Single Appearance

Eric Young initially signed with the WWE as part of the NXT roster back in 2016 and was released from his contract with the WWE on April 15, 2020 due to budget cuts brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic exactly one year after he was drafted to RAW brand as part of the Superstar Shake-up. Eric would then make his return to IMPACT Wrestling at their 2020 Slammiversary Event and was “stabbed” by Violent By Design stablemate Deaner following reports that Young’s contract with IMPACT had expired.

Fightful Select reports that Eric Young re-signed with the WWE in November of 2022 and spoke with WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H last year about returning to the ring. Eric said during his interviews that he felt like he had a lot more to give as a wrestler, rather than in a backstage capacity and he expressed issues with working for WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Eric also talked about the WWE’s system being broken, but that was before McMahon stepped down last year and once Triple H ran creative, Eric Young was brought back last November, though he was never and didn’t even make a single appearance on WWE TV, which would result in him asking for his release just months later.

It was also noted on the report that Eric Young requested his release from WWE in April of 2023 as he didn’t want to work with Vince McMahon after McMahon returned to the company in an official capacity. Young’s request was quietly granted and his 90-day non-compete clause with WWE ended last week, which made it possible for him to appear this past Saturday at Slammiversary.
