Macey Estrella Reflects on WWE Departure and Her Future in Wrestling

Macey Estrella, previously known as Lacey Evans in WWE, shared candid insights into her departure from the professional wrestling giant and her new outlook on life beyond the ring. With her WWE contract having expired in August 2023, Estrella is now free to explore her wrestling career without the constraints of a no-compete clause. Her final appearance for WWE was in July 2023, against Zelina Vega in a non-televised dark match, bringing her substantial seven-year tenure with the company to a close.

In a conversation with Chris Van Vliet on his show “Insight With Chris Van Vliet,” Estrella divulged her feelings about her time in WWE and her current endeavors. “I have had a lot of offers, obviously reach out. But I did WWE for seven years, and it was never my passion,” she expressed. Although she acknowledged the dedication and passion of her peers in sports entertainment, Estrella always felt something was missing, “I went out there and did the best that I could and did my job. But I always looked forward to coming home.”

Family has always been a cornerstone for Estrella, who has been with her husband since they were teenagers and traveled with her family throughout her WWE stint. However, the rigors of the wrestling schedule posed a significant challenge. “It was an incredible opportunity, but it was a lot for whenever you compare what your passion is, and WWE is very, very difficult,” she admitted, referencing the demanding lifestyle of being on the road in excess of 300 days per year.

As for a return to the WWE, Estrella is quite certain about her feelings, “No, there’s not [anything I miss].” She explained the difficulty in maintaining the glamorous persona required for her role in the company and made it clear that the lifestyle was not suited to her genuine self.

Post-WWE, Estrella finds fulfillment in running her own coffee shop and investing in community outreach programs. One notable initiative is her work with Alcoholics Anonymous, centered on aiding families affected by addiction. She described these efforts as “so rewarding” and is confident in her decision to step away from professional wrestling.

While her wrestling boots may be hung up for good, Estrella’s impact on the community and her authenticity in discussing her journey continue to resonate with her fan base and the wrestling community. Her story serves as a testament to the multifaceted lives that wrestlers lead and the often challenging balance between personal passions and professional demands.
