Reason Reigns Defeated McIntyre At WWE Clash At The Castle

The main event of WWE’s Clash At The Castle saw Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns defeat “The Scottish Warrior” Drew McIntyre to retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. WWE’s Clash At The Castle was praised by many and it was said to be one hell of a show with it featuring a lot of physicality, but several members of the WWE Universe was surprised by how the night ended as the fans were expecting Drew McIntyre to beat The Tribal Chief and get his big moment of becoming the champion in front of his hometown crowd.

Dave Meltzer mentioned on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the WWE made the decision to continue Roman’s two-year plus reign as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion as they are looking to make him a legend for this generation of professional wrestling and they decided against a major pop from the fans in Cardiff if they had McIntyre go over Reigns. Reigns has been on top of WWE since he made his return in the summer of 2020 and defeated Bray Wyatt for the WWE Universal Title.

This is what Dave Meltzer said:

“They want to make him the legend for this generation and ending the planned long reign for a major pop here was a decision they decided against.”
