Reason Why WWE’s Planned Live Event In India Was Postponed

It was previously reported that WWE is planning to hold a live event on a “grand scale” on Wednesday, January 18th, 2023 in Hyderabad, India and that the roster for the show will consist of “a mixture of both Indian and international Superstars” and former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, who recently flew to the country to do a “big Bollywood project” and who pushed for the company to hold another live event in India, is a lock to be on the show. It was then reported that the planned event in India will take place inside the G.M.C. Balayogi Sports Complex, which is an indoor stadium in Hyderabad with a total capacity of 5,000 fans in attendance and that it is expected the show will mostly feature talent from WWE SmackDown.

WrestleVotes then revealed that the proposed WWE Live Event in India scheduled for January 18 of next year has been postponed for unspecified reasons. Dave Meltzer reported on a recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE’s India television partner Sony Six wanted the live event built around the Indian talent and other top stars in the country and Sony Six made the decision to have the major live event postponed until their merger with Zee is finalized, which is expected to happen in April, so the show will be taking place sometime after April.

WWE has yet to officially announce the show, but the company did hold their Superstar Spectacle Event in January of 2021, which featured several Indian talents and other top Superstars and WWE did hold a live event in India in 2017.
