WWE has been showing interest in a number of top AEW Stars for quite some time now and one of them is none other than one-third of the reigning AEW World Trios Champions Kenny Omega, but the WWE also has their eyes set on another top star in pro wrestling and that is none other than former IWGP World and United States Heavyweight Champion Jay White. Dave Meltzer mentioned on a previous Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there is a much bigger major free agent in play right now that WWE sees as a priority over Jay White, which WrestlingNews.co learned is top AEW Star Kenny Omega as his AEW contract is set to expire soon or has already expired.
Since then, AEW has added time to Omega’s contract for the time he missed due to injury, but there is no word yet on exactly how long his contract was extended. The Young Bucks’ contract with AEW is also set to expire soon and the belief is that these three huge talents will stick together regarding what they do next with their careers whether that is to stay with AEW or go to WWE and if time is added to Omega’s contract, then he wouldn’t be free to negotiate with another promotion until November.
Dave Meltzer mentioned on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Omega’s name has been heavily talked about in certain circles within WWE and other wrestling companies, but there’s no word yet on the names of those companies, though it’s presumably NJPW or IMPACT Wrestling if they are able to match his asking price. Meltzer then noted that with Barry Bloom representing Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, the feeling is that they would have a good shot at sticking together in a company or promotion they choose to work in or in other words, a package deal.
There is also no word yet on where Omega and The Bucks are leaning towards whether that is to stay in AEW or sign with WWE or go elsewhere, but it is worth noting that they had talks with Triple H before AEW was launched back in 2019 and Omega has been complimentary of the WWE and has even suggested that AEW and the WWE could work together someday. As previously reported, one factor that may influence or persuade The Elite’s decision is Cody Rhodes jumping ship from AEW to WWE and being in the spot he is in today and that is main-eventing WrestleMania 39.
