The main event of All Elite Wrestling’s Full Gear PPV saw MJF defeat Jon Moxley to become the new AEW World Champion, with an assist from William Regal, who handed MJF a brass knuckles to use against The Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley. Last Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite then saw AEW World Champion MJF address the AEW fans and brutally attack William Regal with the same brass knuckles as a way to write him off of AEW TV as there have been reports that Regal is on his way out of the company and that he is expected to return to the WWE soon, which comes after Jon Moxley told William Regal to never show his face in AEW again.
Dave Meltzer noted on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that he believes Regal is officially gone from All Elite Wrestling and something will be going down this coming Wednesday on AEW Dynamite to address certain aspects of the situation. Meltzer also stated that the storyline with The Blackpool Combat will continue in some way, but Regal is definitely returning to the WWE. Meltzer then revealed that so many different people has told him so many different stories, with some stating Regal’s AEW contract was only a short-team deal and others stating he signed a three-year deal. There are those who stated that he had an out in his AEW contract or that Tony Khan gave him an out because of Regal’s relationship with Triple H, but whatever his deal was, it sounds weird that it is now over and that he is going back to work behind the scenes.
This is what Dave Meltzer said:
“Regal’s gone.” “It’s not like maybe he’s gone. I believe that’s his farewell.”
“I believe there’s going to be something on Wednesday’s show where there will be something addressing certain things. That story is supposed to keep going in some way. But he is going back to WWE. That’s just the deal. I’ve had so many different people tell me so many different stories. The primary source story was that his contract was short-term. The WWE side says that he had an out.”
“The closest thing to what I would say is official would be he signed a short-term deal. Others say he had an out or Tony gave him an out. Whatever it was, I certainly know that when he signed it was a 3-year deal supposedly and nine months now it’s over. It sounds weird.”
