WWE Has Shown Interest In Another Top NJPW Star

It was previously reported that WWE higher-ups are interested in bringing in top NJPW Star Hikuleo to the company and that this has been the case over the past several months. It was also revealed on the report that intermediaries had been used to express interest in Hikuleo, similar to what top WWE Star Finn Balor did to help bring in Dragon Lee.

According to Fightful Select, WWE has shown interest in bringing in another top NJPW Star and that is none other than NEVER Openweight Champion Tama Tonga, who defeated WWE Star Karl Anderson of The O.C. at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 to capture the NEVER Openweight Championship. The report also notes that WWE’s interest in Tonga isn’t new as prior to the Wrestle Kingdom 17 Event word spread throughout the NJPW locker room of the interest and NJPW sources have indicated that Tonga’s NJPW contract is set to expire in a matter of weeks despite just winning the NEVER Openweight Championship.

Tama Tonga received an offer from the WWE seven years ago, but the top NJPW Star turned it down so he could stay with the promotion and team with his brother Tanga Loa. Tama and his brother have remained in NJPW ever since, while several former members of the Bullet Club have went on and signed with WWE. Tama has also competed for companies such as IMPACT Wrestling and ROH and he and Hikuleo are the sons of WWE legend Haku.
