Road Dogg Wanted Big E as SmackDown Champion Before Kofi Kingston’s WWE Title Run

According to former WWE creative team member Chris Dunn, Road Dogg wanted Big E to become SmackDown champion a year before Kofi Kingston's WWE Championship run in 2019. Dunn claimed that Road Dogg advocated for launching SmackDown with Big E as champion, but the direction changed when Kingston gained momentum leading up to WrestleMania 35, with Road Dogg then pushing for Kingston's title run instead.

Former WWE writer and producer Chris Dunn claimed that Vince McMahon once decided SmackDown would lose every match at Survivor Series just to mess with Road Dogg, who was running the blue brand at the time. According to Dunn, McMahon made this decision during a creative meeting while Road Dogg was calling in from home, with the only exception being The New Day's match, which was moved to the kickoff show so their victory wouldn't officially count toward SmackDown's record.
