AEW Reportedly Planning A TNT Special Event For January 8th

A massive announcement was previously made by WarnerMedia that AEW’s flagship show, Dynamite, will be moving to TBS starting January 5th, 2022. It was also announced that the company will be holding four “supercard” annual specials starting in 2022 on TNT to coincide with Dynamite’s move to TBS.

According to Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men podcast, a source within AEW has informed him that they are planning to hold their first-ever TNT supercard special on Saturday, January 8th and that the name of the show will be called “Battle of the Belts,” which AEW filed to trademark the name of last January.

Battle of the Belts was a show first held by the NWA and Championship Wrestling From Florida in 1985. The first-ever Battle of the Belts saw WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, who was the NWA World Heavyweight Champion at the time, defeat Wahoo McDaniel in a best 2-Out-Of-3 Falls Match. In 1986, the second and third Battle of the Belts Events took place prior to the CWF going out of business in 1987. Companies like ECW and FIP have also used “Battle of the Belts” for the names of their shows.
