AEW Star Buddy Matthews made an appearance at this past Saturday’s Fight Life Pro Wrestling Event and would end up competing in a Singles Matchup. Immediately following the match, Matthews cut an in-ring promo and revealed that the House of Black has had some issues lately and he will be going away for a while as he needs to recalibrate and figure some things out. Matthews also noted just like Black said previously this isn’t goodbye, this is just a see you later.
Matthews was pertaining to the statement Malakai Black issued at a Prestige Wrestling Event last week about how he will be taking some time off and that he asked for his release from AEW. Fightful Select reports that the spot Matthews had with the Great Muta on the Grand Slam episode of AEW Rampage was a way to write him off of AEW television. There’s no word yet on what his status is, but one AEW source has told Fightful that they believe Matthews was done with AEW as he’s expressed dissatisfaction with how the promotion has been utilizing him as of late. The recently released Black was unhappy with his AEW booking as well.
Buddy Matthews signed with AEW this past February and was instantly placed in the House of Black with Malakai Black and Brody King. Matthews last competed for AEW on the Grand Slam episode of AEW Rampage when he teamed with Brody King in a losing effort to Darby Allin and Sting in a No DQ Match.
This is what Buddy Matthews said:
“Unfortunately, tonight, I’m going to be the bearer of some unfortunate news. See as everyone knows, the House of Black has had some issues lately. But as all the members of the house, I’m speaking for them all. We want to thank you all for being members of the house. Unfortunately, I, like some of the other members, need to go away for a while. I need to recalibrate. I need to figure out some things. As my brother Malakai once said, this isn’t goodbye, this is just see you later.”
