AEW star, Kenny Omega Retains Impact Championship—Thunder Rosa Premiers At Slammiversary

The forbidden door is wide open indeed and it was quite clear at Impact’s Slammiversary event this past Saturday that the Impact roster hasn’t seen the last of the AEW stars making an appearance on their turf.

Tony Khan has ultimately delivered the message that AEW stars can only elevate the Impact product.

Where is all this going, though? We don’t exactly know, but Slammiversary almost looked like an extension of AEW. The Good Brothers won the tag titles and a bunch of other AEW stars made their mark at Impact’s biggest show of the calendar year.

Omega reigns supreme

Kenny Omega has been performing triple-duty for months now and perhaps nobody does it better than him. He’s retained time after time and for many of the championships he holds. He holds the Impact World Championship, the AEW World Championship  and the AAA Mega Championship respectively.

With rumors of Omega suffering from multiple injuries due to the wear and tear of his schedule, many were wondering if it wasn’t time to have given up the belt, thus returning the title to the hands of an Impact original, but those rumors were shut down in one fell swoop by the time the bell rang at Impact’s Slammiversary event.

The match was brutal and any misgivings that fans had that Omega was going easy when it came to his Impact appearances were shut down as well and perhaps just as quickly. The match had everything a Callihan and Omega fan could possibly want and more, ultimately leading in the AEW champ’s favor.

Goddess of thunder

Nobody knew just who Impact Knockouts champ, Deonna Purrazzo was set to face. The rumor mill was equally running rampant in that many believed Mickie James would be making a return to the ring and she did, but not in a wrestling capacity.

The mystery opponent for Purrazzo was none other than AEW star Thunder Rosa herself.

Talk about the forbidden door.

She came out and of course lost—Deonna Purrazzo is having one heck of a run with the Impact Knockouts title, but Rosa, who has already made a name for herself on Dynamite left little to be desired.

Rosa who had an all out brawl a few months back with Dr. Britt Baker—a match that’s still being talked about today—brought with her quite a bit of momentum and it’ll be interesting to see what happens next for her at Impact and on AEW TV.

The forbidden door keeps on giving; just how much it’ll give moving forward remains to be seen.
