AEW Star Paul Wight Returns to OVW After Nearly Two Decades: A Pro Wrestling Update

The wrestling world is abuzz with big news as the Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) announces the return of former Big Show star and current AEW (All Elite Wrestling) signee, Paul Wight. After a hiatus of nearly 20 years, Wight will be gracing the Davis Arena and OVW Television with his towering presence.

This is indeed a historic moment for the pro wrestling industry, as Wight had quite a memorable run with OVW during its time as WWE’s developmental territory. The memories of his victory over The Miz in June 2006 is still fresh in the minds of his fans. Wight also had historic battles with Batista (then known as Leviathan) in 2000 and John Cena (aka The Prototype) in 2001. The wrestling aficionados still cherish the times Wight teamed with Brock Lesnar for a couple of high voltage OVW matches in 2000.

The return of Paul Wight to OVW is definite to add further heft to the show scheduled on Thursday, October 19, which will be streaming live on Fite. Although Wight is officially a part of the AEW universe, his appearances on the TV are quite sparingly, thus adding to the frenzy and excitement to the upcoming event.

Fans still fondly recall his recent appearance in a skit featuring MJF and Adam Cole. MJF and Cole were depicted fishing, and instead of catching fish, they reel in Paul Wight, adorably dressed as Captain Insano riding a giant rubber duck. This followed his remarkable presence at the All In pre-show at Wembley Stadium, where he joined Anthony Ogogo and Grado to confront and overpower Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Sonjay Dutt.

With the announcement explicitly stating Wight’s return to OVW after almost two decades, the fans are kept in suspense over the role he will be assigned to play. The anticipation is further fueled by the recent surge in popularity of OVW due to the Netflix show ‘Wrestlers’.

For more in-depth insight into the thrills and drama of the wrestling world, WrestleTalk’s new book ‘Wrestling Unmasked’ is highly recommended. It exposes untold stories, political maneuverings and behind-the-scenes drama like never before.

This monumental news of Paul Wight’s return to OVW has indeed stirred up whirlwinds in the world of professional wrestling. Whether he wrestles or assumes a different role, his presence alone will undoubtedly take the OVW show to new heights.
