Awesome Kong And Shanna No Longer With All Elite Wrestling

This past weekend, the profiles of Awesome Kong and Shanna were removed from the official roster page of All Elite Wrestling, which led to rumors and speculations of the current status of these two stars with the company. According to Dave Meltzer, AEW has decided to not renew the contracts of Shanna and Kong, which means that they are no longer with the promotion.

A report by Fightful Select indicates that Awesome Kong has not appeared for the promotion as much as expected over the past 16 months and even indicating that she may not have appeared at all. When Kong was no longer cleared to wrestle, the Nightmare Collective parting ways was heavily discussed, and at the time, Awesome Kong not being cleared for in-ring action was reportedly only due to an illness but she suddenly disappeared. It was also revealed that AEW not renewing Kong’s deal was expected “as she hasn’t been in a coach role that was originally discussed for her as well.”

Kong made her promotional debut for AEW at the 2019 Double or Nothing PPV Event when she participated in a 4-Way Match against Kylie Rae, Nyla Rose and the eventual winner, who is now the new AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker. Kong last appeared for AEW on an episode of Dark in January 2020 when she defeated Skyler Moore, but she has not been seen since.

Shanna, on the other hand, debuted for AEW on the October 30th, 2019 episode of AEW Dynamite when she lost to Hikaru Shida. Shanna then returned to the company in November 2020 on an episode of Dark when she defeated Tesha Price after taking some time off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shanna’s last match for AEW took place on an episode of Dark: Elevation in early April when she lost to Leyla Hirsch.

There’s no word yet on why AEW did not renew the contract of Kong and Shanna or what the future holds for them, but updates will be provided as it becomes available.
